A learning disability affects the way someone learns, communicates
or does some everyday things. Most learning disabilities are caused by the way the brain develops before, during or soon after
birth.
It is not an illness that can be cured. It is not mental
illness. It is not dyslexia.
Some people with a mild learning
disability do not need a lot of support. Other people may need support in a particular area, eg: going shopping or getting
dressed. Some people with a learning disability also have a physical disability. They can need support 24 hours a day.
A learning disability does not stop someone from learning and achieving if they
get the right support.
